The top most row of keys on the keyboard consist of 12 special keys (F1 to F12) called Function keys. All these keys perform different task in different programs. Know more about Function of Function Keys.
However, keys F7, F9, F10 and F12 do not have any specific task in windows. So, we can program them for whatever function we want. Follow the below guide:

- Locate the shortcut of application you want. If you don't have shortcut then create one. You can create a shortcut by RightClick on application->Create shortcut.
- Right Click the shortcut and open properties.
- Go to 'Shortcut' Tab
- Go to 'Shortcut key' field (By default it will have 'None' value).
- Now press the function key (F7, F9, F10 or F12) which you want to set for that application.
- The 'Shortcut key' will now have the value of the function key.
- Click Apply.
- Click OK.
Now whenever you press the function key, the respective application will start up.
