(Leaked) The future GoPro Hero 8 and its unveiled features

The new GoPro Hero 8 Action Camera is expected to arrive within a few weeks. In the meantime, here are some pictures and an idea of its characteristics.

While the Chinese DJI is making increasingly insistent incursions into the photography market, including mobile devices like its Osmo line or its latest action camera DJI Osmo Action , GoPro tries not to be forgotten by renewing regularly his ranges.

GoPro has become a name synonymous with action cameras and, historically, every year the company launches a new product line in September. The GoPro Hero 6 Black arrived late September 2017, while the GoPro Hero 7 Black (with its more economical versions, Hero 7 Silver and Hero 7 White) landed exactly one year later.

Not surprisingly, the rumors and leaks of the next generation of GoPros have begun to emerge from the internet: the photo news site Photo Rumors has released images of what appears to be a GoPro Hero 8. Although the leaked images are not particularly sharp, a gray number 8 on the side of one of them indicates that it could be the next generation of GoPro cameras. The photos also indicate that GoPro has redesigned the Hero 8 to accommodate new optional accessories, including a microphone, an external display, and an LED lamp.

The redesign is anyway in the air. Last May, Nick Woodman, CEO of GoPro, revealed that the company was looking to refresh the entire range at all price levels. This could also imply that we will not only see a radically revised GoPro Hero 8 Black, but perhaps also a Silver 8 Hero and a White 8 Hero.

GoPro Hero 8: even more fluid videos?

The next GoPro Hero 8 lineup will retain the 4K video shooting capabilities of its predecessors, but rumors suggest it will double the game, with the Hero 8 Black potentially capable of recording up to 120 frames / second at 4K (up from 60 images / second for the Hero 7 Black), and Full HD 1080p videos could be shot at 480 frames / second.

It is also expected that the eighth generation of action camera would incorporate a brand new GP2 processor. If so, we should see a clear improvement in performance compared to the already excellent GoPro Hero 7 Black. The new processor could potentially improve camera performance in low light and make the HyperSmooth image stabilization function even more silky.

360 degree view

In discussing the company's first quarter 2019 results in May, Nick Woodward also mentioned that the brand was planning to announce a next-generation spherical camera in the fourth quarter of 2019. If that's true, it will likely be the successor to GoPro Fusion which was launched in mid-2018.

We have not heard from Fusion 2, but the original is capable of shooting 5.2K video at up to 30 frames per second. However, the overcapacity of the current camera - which converts 360-degree images to ordinary panoramic videos - is time-consuming, which means it may be a product that may be appropriate better to professionals.

All this is speculation, of course, but if GoPro sticks to its usual routine, we'll probably be entitled to an official announcement for the eighth-generation action cameras (and maybe even the Fusion 2 ) in the next month.
