Facebook Graph Search (FGS)

Facebook Graph Search(FGS) has been announced just a few days ago. People were very much excited about this new feature but when they went in depth of what is actually the Graph Search and how it worked, the story became almost the opposite. People are now more concerned about their privacy rather then using the new facebook feature.

Let me give you a brief idea of what is Facebook Graph Search (FGS).

>> Not a Web Search.
First thing to be very clear about is that it is by no means a 'web search' where you can find information about any damn thing or get links for the stuff you are searching for. It is basically a 'sorting through facebook' place where you can search for anything that is on facebook. 'on facebook' is the keyword over here.

To be more specific, it is for finding things that have been shared on Open Graph, which is a facebook feature that shares apps you use, photos you comment on, etc.
As I said earlier, its not a web search basically. But still it will sometimes give you web search results. The reason for this is, obviously sometimes the things which user search may not be found on facebook. In such cases, it will show you the results from Bing. Good new for Bing and little bad for Google :-P

>> Focus.
The focus of Graph Search is four main areas: Interests, People, Place and Photos (IP3).

>> Similar to Dating Site.
It works like a kind of dating site. The way you'd search is more similar to as searching from a traditional dating website. For example, 'Single women who likes parties and has long hairs and nice body and lives nearby my house' is what you can search in FGS and get real results. It may look like this 'friends or my friends who are female and single and likes parties and who lives in my city'.

>> Too Good or Too Bad?
As said earlier, everything shared on Open Graph will be available for FGS, means every like, comment, post, photo, song listened, etc. So, now you see why people are more concerned about their privacy.
